Asteroid Launcher simulator lets you destroy your hometown | Space

Today, astronomers are monitoring over 2,200 potentially hazardous asteroids larger than 0.6 miles (1 kilometer) across, in Earth’s orbital neighborhood. Fortunately, it’s rare that any will pass close enough to pose a real threat.

Enter Asteroid Launcher (opens in new tab) , a new web app that gives asteroid impact fanatics a shot at answering some of their questions. Our friends at PC Gamer called the app   "morbidly informative" for users .

Dinosaurs were in their prime, not in decline, when fateful asteroid hit

A recent study led by the University of Edinburgh provides new evidence that dinosaurs were going strong at the time of their sudden demise.

"This is a very interesting study that uses an approach not often used in vertebrate paleontology ," said paleontologist Luis Chiappe, director of the Dinosaur Institute at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, who was not involved with the research. "The results are solid."

HAARP To Bounce Signal Off Asteroid 2010 XC15 In NASA Experiment - SpaceRef

An experiment to bounce a radio signal off an asteroid on Dec. 27 will serve as a test for probing a larger asteroid that in 2029 will pass closer to Earth than the many geostationary satellites that orbit our planet.

Pluto Is Just One of Millions of Objects in the Kuiper Belt | HowStuffWorks

When we're young children in school, many of us learn about the planets, the sun , and maybe the asteroid belt . There's much more to our solar system than that, though, including a region of the outer solar system called the Kuiper belt .

Beyond the Kuiper belt, there's also the Oort cloud, another area of space with relatively more objects in it. All this to say, there's a lot more to our solar system than the eight planets most of us learn about.

Willow Showrunner Reveals How Wes Anderson's Asteroid City Affected the Show's Production

"WILLOW TIDBIT: for his upcoming ASTEROID CITY, Wes Anderson badly wanted a clean-shaven @TonyRevolori, which was a continuity problem for us. But a little rewrite & a big assist from Charlie Rawes, lead to one of my fave bits in ep.

Revolori will be reuniting with Wes Anderson after working with the director on  The Grand Budapest Hotel and The French Dispatch , but he's not the only exciting name on the cast list.
