American model Halima Aden, who was born in Kenya, has just notched a notable accomplishment — becoming the first black woman to appear on the cover of Essence magazine wearing a hijab, according to NBC News .

"A huge thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly on this historic 50th anniversary cover," Aden posted on Twitter, alongside the January/February 2020 Essence cover.
The magazine's front page has her decked out in a poufy, pink outfit with matching hijab and hoop earrings.
