The 19 Best Video Games of 2019 - New York Daily News

Another year of gaming is in the books, and this one was a good one. From Call of Duty's return to greatness to the best (despite being the glitchiest) Borderlands yet, several tried-and-true franchises rose, and new titles also emerged.

It was a year of complete and daring titles, the kind of year you have when you have a pair of mature consoles. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are nearing the end of their primes with successors on the horizon; the terrific upside of that is developers know exactly how to build titles on both machines. You saw that in 2019, and you also saw the maturation of Nintendo's Switch, driven by a host of spectacular first-party titles from Nintendo, and a few innovative third-party ideas, too.

Our Favorite Video Games of 2019 | Third Coast Review

2019 was a great year for games. And while 2020 is looking to be a great year, too, I thought we'd take some time and take a look at some our favorite games we played through 2019. This list is in no particular order.

* * *

Coming from now legendary From Software, maker of the Soulsborne games comes a mechanically great game that’s challenging in a way that even Dark Souls fans haven't played before. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice takes the formula that was established in the Souls series, and changes it up just enough to make it completely unique. Parkour, and the use of the prosthetic limb made for unprecedented movement, and whole new ways to die.

2019's Video Games, In Under Two Minutes

There's a few games in this video I completely forgot ( Far Cry New Dawn does not feel like this year to me), but when all put together to some chill Outer Wilds beats, 2019 looked like a pretty good year. For games, anyway.

The Best Game of 2019 Helped Me Finally Understand My Body - VICE

I was recently reading a message board thread called "Are game critics and game outlets too homogenous?" and my post in response was simply "Yes." That's the result of a lot of complicating factors—critics with similar backgrounds, preferencing games with big traffic potential, etc.—but it's nonetheless true. I wish could spend more time with games, simply for the sake of spending time with them, but that's rarely what drives a site's bottom line.

The result of these complications is a woefully incomplete list. I have only played an hour of Disco Elysium , a game whose sharp, incisive writing hooked me within minutes. I am sure I will fall in love with it. I have only played 30 minutes of The Outer Wilds , a game adored by friends and colleagues I deeply trust. I am sure I will, eventually, also fall in love with it. I will not be surprised if both games show up on my "best of" list next year, but they are not here.

Ranking the top five sports video games of the 2010s | Sporting News

The landscape of sports gaming has changed dramatically over the last decade, with a reduction in the number of games produced, evolution of distribution and a shift in newly prioritized features to maximize the revenue they generate.

While there is legitimate reason to be frustrated by the evolution of the genre, there is no question the games that do remain are generally of high quality: Expansive feature sets that allow them to be played in a number of different ways, partnerships with leagues that provide incredible authenticity and technological advancements have taken gameplay and graphics to a whole new level.

Best of 2019: Allegaeon's Riley McShane Picks Top 10 Video Games | Revolver

While no game can truly hold a candle to the impact and innovation of the Dark Souls franchise, Remnant takes some of those soulsborne elements and fits them into a third-person shooter that is a bit easier to chew on for more casual players. The crafting system is fantastic and with a more expansive multiplayer system than it's more elite counterparts, Remnant is a great game to introduce players to the ever-growing library of highly challenging action-adventure titles.

The Launcher team's favorite games of 2019 - The Washington Post

Our list below, of course, is not exhaustive. It's not necessarily a list of 2019′s best games, or the games we considered most impactful (you can read those lists here and here , respectively). Instead, these are personal reflections, touching upon individual likes and dislikes. We hope you learn something new about the games we've chosen, and through them, about the team at Launcher as well.

What I love most about role-playing games is the ability to shape a character into whatever you want. Disco Elysium takes this to an ambitious extreme, where you aren't just shaping how the protagonist acts, but also how he thinks and what he stands for morally and politically. Your character's thoughts are vocal party members swirling in his head, squabbling over what he should and shouldn't do. Every action has an audience.
