The American Song Contest is a new country-wide singing competition between all states and territories of the US.
The programme is an offshoot of Eurovision , a singing competition in which all European states, and Australia, compete in yearly. It is quite tongue-in-cheek and few nations put forward what would considered their best act each year.

Representatives from each of the 50 states, five US territories (American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands) and the District of Columbia will take part in this round-robin tournament to find the best original song in America.
Each locale will be showcased with an original song that will be performed by a home-grown talent, be it a solo singer, duet or band. There will be three rounds: the first five weeks will be qualifiers followed by two semi-finals and the final.

But instead of European countries competing for the title, 56 vocalists representing each U.S. state and territory will compete on "Song Contest," including famous singers like Jewel (representing Alaska), Michael Bolton (Connecticut) and Macy Gray (Ohio), along with lesser-known talents.
