Vancouver Canucks fans tuning into season 11 of Amazing Race Canada may have recognized a familiar face on their TVs.
A segment on episode three featured teams participating in a shootout challenge in order to earn their next clue. With the event taking place in the Abbotsford Centre, the home of the Abbotsford Canucks, the show chose to have goaltender Ty Young reward the winning team with their next clue.
Debuting in 2013, Amazing Race Canada is hosted by Jon Montgomery, who won a gold medal in skeleton at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Montgomery famously celebrated by chugging a pitcher of beer he was handed by a fan in Whistler Village after claiming gold for Canada.
Young can be seen in the cameo giving a rather hilarious goal call, while also handing the winning team their new clue.
Though his screen time was limited, getting to appear in a TV show as big as The Amazing Race Canada is a very cool moment for the 20-year-old goaltender, who is still quite unknown, having spent the majority of the 2024-25 season in the ECHL.
The Abbotsford Canucks just finished celebrating a championship, winning their first-ever Calder Cup with a Game 6 victory over the Charlotte Checkers.
Young served as Abbotsford's third goalie during the run. That will be massive going forward, as he has a shot to earn a full-time role in the AHL next season alongside Nikita Tolopilo, following the trade of Arturs Silovs .
Young, who was taken in the fifth round of the 2022 draft by the Canucks, posted a stellar 2.53 GAA along with a .926 SV% with the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings this past season. He also appeared in 11 AHL games with the Canucks, putting up a 2.72 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage.
