SpaceX Falcon Heavy launches NASA Psyche asteroid mission

SpaceX's powerful Falcon Heavy rocket successfully launched on Friday morning, carrying a NASA mission bound for a distant asteroid.

NASA wants to study the composition of the asteroid, which the agency describes as "an unusual object likely rich in metal." The Psyche spacecraft is armed with a variety of scientific tools, such as instruments for studying the asteroid's magnetic field and chemical makeup.

Oct 13 (Reuters) - NASA on Friday launched a spacecraft from Florida on its way to Psyche, the largest of the several metal-rich asteroids known in our solar system and believed by scientists to be the remnant core of an ancient protoplanet, offering clues about Earth's formation.

Webb Detects Tiny Quartz Crystals in the Clouds of a Hot Gas Giant - NASA

Researchers using NASA's James Webb Space Telescope have detected evidence for quartz nanocrystals in the high-altitude clouds of WASP-17 b, a hot Jupiter exoplanet 1,300 light-years from Earth.

"We were thrilled!" said David Grant, a researcher at the University of Bristol in the UK and first author on a paper being published today in the Astrophysical Journal Letters .

NASA Hosts Unveiling of Plans for New Silicon Valley Innovation Hub - NASA

A new campus, called Berkeley Space Center, aims to offer lab, office, and educational spaces along with student and faculty housing, a conference center, and retail space on 36 acres within the NASA Research Park at the agency's Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley.

The University of California Berkeley and San Francisco-based developer SKS Partners proposed the new campus and innovation hub for research and advancements in astronautics, aeronautics, quantum computing, climate studies, social sciences, and more during an event Monday at NASA Ames.
