The hackers set up domains and accounts that looked like technical support and tried to engage Teams users in chats and get them to approve multifactor authentication (MFA) prompts, the researchers said.

Russia-backed hackers used Microsoft Teams to breach government agencies | TechCrunch

Russian state-sponsored hackers posed as technical support staff on Microsoft Teams to compromise dozens of global organizations, including government agencies.

The attacks, which began in late-May, saw the APT29 hackers use previously compromised Microsoft 365 accounts to create new technical support-themed domains.

Microsoft Exposes Russian Hackers' Sneaky Phishing Tactics via Microsoft Teams Chats

Microsoft on Wednesday disclosed that it identified a set of highly targeted social engineering attacks mounted by a Russian nation-state threat actor using credential theft phishing lures sent as Microsoft Teams chats.

The tech giant attributed the attacks to a group it tracks as Midnight Blizzard (previously Nobelium). It's also called APT29, BlueBravo, Cozy Bear, Iron Hemlock, and The Dukes.

Iranian cloud company accused of hosting cybercriminals, nation-state hackers

An Iranian technology company is providing infrastructure services to ransomware gangs and an array of nation-state hackers, researchers have found.

A report released Tuesday by the cybersecurity firm Halcyon details how the internet service provider Cloudzy accepts cryptocurrency in exchange for the anonymous use of technological services used to carry out cyberattacks.
