The toy company behind the iconic Barbie brand has announced a signature doll modeled after Kate McKinnon's character from Greta Gerwig's blockbuster "Barbie." In the movie, McKinnon's character helps send Margot Robbie's Barbie on her journey.
"Barbie" is produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, which is owned by CNN's parent company Warner Bros. Discovery.

The official Weird Barbie doll created by Mattel is completely modeled after McKinnon’s character. The doll was designed by Javier Meabe, Mattel’s lead product designer. Weird Barbie is a made-to-move posable doll that comes in collectible “Barbie the Movie” packaging.

Given the movie is all about toys, it's no surprise that Mattel is banking on that success with merchandise. The latest in the new doll line is Weird Barbie, based off of Kate McKinnon's character from the film. You can see them side-by-side in the image at the top of this post.
In any case, I can't help but point out that releasing a brand new "Weird" Barbie completely misses the point of the character. In the film, Weird Barbie is the way she is because she's been played to pieces. She's been Velveteen Rabbited. Whoever owned her loved her but liked to play rough.
