Things are getting weird in the markets

A rush to safety in the bond market. A modest rally in tech stocks. And still-simmering worries about banks. Things were getting a bit weird on Monday.

Driving the news: The major stock indexes were somewhat resilient, despite massive jitters about the health of many large regional banks after the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank over the last few days.

Oscars 2023: Everything Everywhere's win confirms the Oscars are weird now.

It used to be that you could count on a Best Picture to be, well, normie, the kind of movie for which the term "Oscar bait" was coined: a rousing drama touching on serious issues in an elegant and understated style.

But while Moonlight and Parasite 's Best Picture wins were atypical, they could also be, at least retrospectively, explained in familiar Oscars terms.
