Asteroid Alert! Bus-sized asteroid rushing at a fiery 17221kmph towards Earth, NASA says | Tech News

NASA has detected a small yet potentially hazardous asteroid on January 11, 2023, which has been dubbed Asteroid 2023 AH and it is all set to make a very close approach towards Earth today.

NASA's CNEOS detected that the asteroid is making its journey at a fiery speed of 17221 km per hour. "At this time, the asteroid moves away from the Sun at a maximum distance of 23million kilometers and approaches it at a minimum distance of 144 million kilometers," the-sky.org mentioned.

NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test Is a Smashing Success - Eos

DART's target, the Didymos-Dimorphos asteroid system , was first discovered in the mid-1990s. But astronomers back then spotted only its larger member, Didymos, which is roughly 800 meters (half a mile) in diameter.

"We needed to understand the Didymos-Dimorphos system before we changed it," said Cristina Thomas , a planetary scientist at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, at AGU's Fall Meeting 2022.

Construction begins on NASA's NEO Surveyor asteroid-hunting telescope | Space

After recently passing a critical test, NASA's Near-Earth Object (NEO) Surveyor — an infrared telescope that will search for potentially threatening asteroids — has entered the building phase.

NEO Surveyor is the successor to the space agency's Near-Earth Object Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (NEOWISE) mission, which discovered thousands of near-Earth objects and classified them as asteroids or comets .

Aircraft-sized asteroid dashing towards Earth, clocked at a ferocious 38208 kmph | Tech News

NASA and other space agencies have been keeping a close eye on asteroids that pass near Earth, as these objects have the potential to be dangerous. The vast majority of asteroids can be found in the asteroid belt, a region of the solar system located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

NASA has now revealed that a similar asteroid is all set to pass the planet at ferocious speed. Here's what the space agency said.

New alien minerals found inside a 15.2-ton asteroid | SYFY WIRE

Turnabout's fair play , and if the universe wants to test our mettle, it's only right that we should do the same to any space rock with the audacity to land in our neck of the woods.

A small piece of the meteorite weighing roughly 70 grams was sent to scientists for analysis. Herd and colleagues were working to describe the composition of the meteorite and classify it when they noticed some unusual mineral inclusions in the rock.

Wes Anderson's 'Asteroid City' and 'Henry Sugar' Will Feature Stop-Motion Animation Sequences ...

Anderson has already made two full stop-motion films: 2009's "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" and 2018's "Isle of Dogs." Stop-motion was also used for a specific sequence in "The Darjeeling Limited."

We can most likely surmise that, with a June release date, "Asteroid City" will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. We're not too sure about 'Henry Sugar' but its eyed fall launch could have it playing at Toronto/Telluride/Venice.
