Humans Walk Weird. Scientists May Finally Know Why | WIRED

For something so routine, walking is shockingly complicated. Biomechanists break a single step into several phases: First there's touchdown, when your heel strikes the floor. Next comes the single support phase, when you're balancing on that leg.

All of this contains a mystery. Researchers have long observed that when we walk, our planted leg bounces twice before swinging into the next step. That is, the knee bends and extends once when the foot first touches down, then again just before takeoff.

The Cancellation of '1899' Marks the End of Netflix's Weird Era | WIRED

The Monitor is a weekly column devoted to everything happening in the WIRED world of culture, from movies to memes, TV to Twitter.

Honestly, this explanation doesn't entirely ring true. Shows are canceled all the time, and people who get excited about TV—especially genre TV—go in knowing there's a possibility that the thing they love may never come to its creators' hoped-for conclusion, that it could be literally endless.

The Bengals-Ravens coin-flip scenario is, frankly, weird - ProFootballTalk

As submitted to the owners, the two proposals for addressing the impact of the cancellation of the Bills-Bengals game on the AFC playoff tree represent an all-or-nothing proposition .

The dichotomy between the two approaches makes the situation even more bizarre. Why not use coin flips to determine home-field advantage for the AFC Championship? Why not use a neutral site for a Ravens-Bengals wild-card game? Why neutral site for one and coin flip for the other?

There's nothing funny about a $7,400 inflation tax, America's $31.3 trillion of debt, and two parties in Congress that refuse to address that debt.

You can learn a lot about a man by seeing how he spends his money. You can learn about a congressman by seeing how he spends everyone else's money.

Lenovo's Weird New Dual-Screen Laptops Stack and Twist - CNET

Used in landscape mode, the two displays give you a lot of room to work and it's better balanced on the included stand.

You won't always have room to use the Yoga Book 9i as dual displays, though. (It would be awkward on my train commute for sure.

If you're not a fan of touch-typing on screen -- and I'm not -- the included Bluetooth keyboard magnetically attaches to the bottom display and the bottom half turns into a touchpad.
