NASA plans to obliterate the International Space Station — here's how

The International Space Station will eventually be put to rest — through a fiery crash into a " spacecraft cemetery ."

As of 2022, the space station has been in orbit for an impressive 21 years. As NASA and its partners originally planned to decommission after 15 years, the space station is long past its original due date.

Soyuz Trio Docks to Station, NASA Astronaut Nears Departure – Space Station

On March 30, a Soyuz spacecraft will return as scheduled carrying NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei and cosmonauts Pyotr Dubrov and Anton Shkaplerov back to Earth. Upon their return, Vande Hei will hold the American record for the longest single human spaceflight mission of 355 days.

NASA's Perseverance Rover Hightails It to Martian Delta – NASA Mars Exploration

The rover’s self-driving capabilities will be put to the test this month as it begins a record-breaking series of sprints to its next sampling location.

NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover is trying to cover more distance in a single month than any rover before it – and it’s doing so using artificial intelligence. On the path ahead are sandpits, craters, and fields of sharp rocks that the rover will have to navigate around on its own.

NASA spacecraft snaps gorgeous new photo of Jupiter's moons Io and Europa | Space

NASA's Juno spacecraft beamed back stunning new photos of Jupiter's moons , Io and Europa. 

Juno's latest view of the two moons was captured during the spacecraft's 39th close flyby of Jupiter on Jan. 12. At the time, the spacecraft was about 38,000 miles (61,000 kilometers) above Jupiter's cloud tops, at a latitude of about 52 degrees south.

NASA says there is still cooperation with Russian colleagues | PBS NewsHour

ATLANTA (AP) — NASA Administrator Bill Nelson on Friday played down recent comments by the head of Russia’s space agency that the United States would have to use broomsticks to fly to space after Russia said it would stop supplying rocket engines to U.S. companies.

“That’s just Dmitry Rogozin. He spouts off every now and then. But at the end of the day, he’s worked with us,” Nelson told The Associated Press. “The other people that work in the Russian civilian space program, they’re professional.

NASA Adds Giant New Dish to Communicate With Deep Space Missions

NASA's DSS-53 antenna went online in February 2022 at the Deep Space Network's Madrid facility. The addition is part of the agency's effort to expand the capacity of the network, which supports about 40 missions and is expected to support another 40 that will launch in the coming years.
