‘The Amazing Race’ Resumes After COVID Forces A 19-Month Hiatus – CBS Denver
(CBS4)- Season 33 of “ The Amazing Race ” has already been a wild ride and it’s only just begun. The Race started filming in 2020 but was forced to take a 19-month hiatus due to the coronavirus.
Host Phil Keoghan talked with CBS4’s Makenzie O’Keefe about what it was like to watch the pandemic play out.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — “The Amazing Race” continues, but two local contestants are not returning.
Contestants made their return Wednesday night after the race was put on hold for more than a year because of COVID-19. The race was put on hold for a total of 19 months — the longest pit stop in the show’s history.

When we last left The Amazing Race, it was late February 2020, and Phil Keoghan was telling the nine remaining teams in Glasgow that the show was suspending the race because of the coronavirus.
Nineteen months later (and one week later in TV time), the race resumed in the Swiss Alps. Four of the nine teams were no longer with the race. Why did they leave? The show didn’t say. We can assume they all survived, given that they were all young and healthy.

Since 2001, eager fans of The Amazing Race have tuned in to watch eleven pairs race around the world in hopes of winning a grand cash prize.
However, navigating around the globe (using only a map) is not easy — competitors must participate in a series of challenges, and complete specific tasks at their foreign pit stops. During each "leg" of the race, the team in last place is eliminated.
