Germany wants to add loot box warning to video game ratings • Eurogamer.net

UPDATE: The Bundestag has amended its announcement about the passing of reform of the Youth Protection Act to remove mention of loot boxes.

It appears the Bundestag made a mistake with its own announcement of the legal reform. The announcement, which can be viewed on the Bundestag's website , no longer includes the line: "It is also planned to deactivate cost traps such as 'loot boxes' by default."

The headline of this article has been changed to reflect the change in the Bundestag's announcement.

Illinois Video Game Ban Bill Faces Uphill Legal, Scientific Battles | WGLT

Illinois and other states have tried, and failed, to pass bans on those kinds of games in the past. Experts say the new bill isn't realistic.

Marcus Evans Jr., D-Chicago, is the state representative behind the bill. He represents the south side of the city, and he's an assistant majority leader in the House. Evans said he's worried games affect mental health, especially among young people.

"The thought is, do they think this is acceptable behavior?" said Evans. "I'm looking at things that are supportive of carjacking and looking to oppose those things, and to bring the question of the acceptance of certain behaviors."

Get to know the video games your kids are playing | Lowcountry Parent | postandcourier.com

If you have children that have reached the age of about six years old (possibly younger), they have likely been introduced to the wide world of video gaming. And since this past year's theme was "virtual," there was likely no way around it – kids playing video games seems inevitable.

As parents it is important that we know what our kids are doing online. Ask your kids to explain the game to you, no matter how confusing it may sound. Once you have shown that interest, they might even let you try it out, under their guidance of course. This little experiment will enlighten you and bring you into their world. And, heck, you just might learn a thing or two.
