When will medical simulation catch up to consumer video games? | MobiHealthNews

Sam Glassenberg, CEO of Level Ex , dodged the family business of medicine and went into video game design. But his path led him right back to the world of medicine

"All of this came to a head in 2012 when my father, who is an anesthesiologist, finally gave up and said 'All right Sam, you're not going to medical school. It's too late. So at least put this game silliness to good use and make me a game to train my residents to do a fiber optic intubation."

'Mortal Kombat' At 25: Still One Of The Best And Most Successful Video Game Movies

The secret to making a well-liked and commercially-successful video game movie has been hiding in plain sight for 25 years.

Today is the 25th anniversary of Paul W.S. Anderson and Kevin Droney's Mortal Kombat . Truth be told, the nostalgia I feel for the film isn't rooted in the movie itself (I didn't even see it in theaters), but rather the mere notion that a video game-based movie could A) be an unapologetic B-movie genre flick and B) not necessarily expected to be an A-level box office blockbuster.

In a possible first-of-its-kind study, researchers have some data about the number of gay gamers in the U.S. and how they identify in the LGBT community.

The data comes from the 2018 U.S. Games 360 Report, which surveyed 2,000 self-reported gamers over the age of 13; 10% of them identified as LGBT.

Halo Infinite’s delay was allegedly partly due to ‘TV show distraction and heavy

The publication notes that building a console launch game is already a challenging task, especially considering Halo Infinite's SlipSpace engine has been built from scratch for the project.

However, it puts a particular focus on Infinite's outsourced development strategy. Outsourcing is very common for any AAA project as large as Halo, but according to Thurrott's sources, 343 was creating even more content externally than usual.

"The coordination between the many different companies contributing to Infinite has been rough, at best," it says.

A breath of fresh air in video games | MIT Technology Review

Jenny C. Xu '19 created her first video game at age 12, young enough not to realize how outnumbered she would be as a female in the game developing world. She's glad it worked out that way.

In 2019 Xu won the Niantic Beyond Reality Developer Contest, and she is using the prize money to develop Run to My Heart, a "social running game," through her Bay Area–based company Talofa Games. Players can work with online friends, as well as virtual running companions, toward shared goals—running a combined distance of 10 miles, for example, or collecting imaginary potions from different locations.
