NORTON SHORES — The Mona Shores girls basketball team managed to take it its lowest moment of the season and turn it into a positive.

The Sailors fought tooth and nail at rival Reeths-Puffer on Feb. 11, in a thriller of a game that wasn't decided until Rockets standout Lauren Ross drilled a contested three-pointer as time expired, giving her team a 50-47 victory.
The sting from a loss like that could have sunk a lot of teams, but that hasn't been the case with the Sailors, who haven't lost since that heartbreaker. Their recent four-game winning streak has included eye-opening victories over quality programs such as Grand Rapids Union, Muskegon and Jenison.

Nominee number 2 is Izard County. Caleb Faulkner launches a three-quarter court pass, Coby Everett tips and Dylan Tharp finishes on Wednesday. The Cougars would go on to win the 1A 2 Regional, the reigning state champs are 36-5 this season.

Westwood's Kylie Junak wins girls high school bowling regional to lead area qualifiers for
MARQUETTE — One team and four individual bowlers have qualified for the MHSAA state finals on the lanes to be held Friday and Saturday at several locations in the Lower Peninsula.
The big winner in the weekend’s regional tournaments was Westwood freshman Kylie Junak, who won her Division 4 regional title in a field of 78 girls held at Lucky Jack’s in Traverse City on Saturday.
She beat out the No. 2 bowler, Andrea Bickel of Oscoda, by 12 pins as Junak totaled 1,099 for six games, an average of 183.2. She started a bit slow with 135 and 173, then caught fire in the middle with 245, 197 and 190 before closing with 159.
An essay on love by that ‘bad, sexy girl’, Fiona Kidman | The Spinoff
The war ended. My father came home, although the farm in the Waikato would not remain home for long. He and my mother decided to move to the Far North. In 1945, that entailed a day and a half of train travel, the first journey beginning at Frankton Junction followed by a change in Auckland (yes, there was a passenger train from Auckland to Otiria Junction in the Bay of Islands then).
I never saw him again, but I was told that he would wander the farm calling out “Where is she? Where is the little girl?” I can’t write this, even now, without weeping. That scene has played itself over in my head many times, and this is not the first time I have written about it. But I can tell you that the love between the old and the young can be as deep and intense in its own way as romantic love can be for the mature.
