The 2010s: The Defining Chinese Video Games of the Decade

At the start of the 2010s, China was the site of a wildly imaginative (and wildly cutthroat) mobile games market. A little farming simulator called Happy Farm had, in 2009, seeded the idea for Zynga's Farmville , which spawned a multi-million dollar industry of “Facebook games.”

Since then, we've seen the lifting of a decades-long ban on console gaming, the subtle shift in Chinese game studios from pure “outsourcing” to a more engaged presence in game development, the dominance of China in esports , the import of the “culture wars” in gaming discourse online, censorship and moral panics, and between it all — some incredible games.

How stores selling video games fight for space in an ever-more

Josh Hornor likes knowing who the people who come into Wizards Video Games are. With competitors like GameStop, Wal-Mart and Best Buy all within throwing distance of the Gainesville independent store, Hornor wants the store he owns to be the informed, personable and community-ingrained alternative to big chain stores when it comes to buying and bonding over video games.

This goes beyond knowing the names and faces of people who walk through the store's mural-covered entrance into its memorabilia-covered walls -- it's about knowing what they like, what might interest them and maintaining a relationship that goes beyond the transaction of a video game, comic book or figurine.

The 2010s were full of video games we'll gladly revisit for decades to come | Ars Technica

As the 2010s come to a close, looking back on the thousands and thousands of video games that were made over the last ten years is a daunting task. It's so daunting, in fact, we need a little more time—we'll be narrowing down that massive list to a selection of the most important games of the decade in the near future.

In the meantime, though, we thought it would be interesting to poll the Ars Brain Trust for some more personally relevant "Game of the Decade" picks. These titles might not rank as the objectively best games of the decade, or the most innovative, or influential, or even the most well-made. But each one stands out to a member of our staff as the most memorable and impactful gaming experience of the last ten years; the one that meant the most to us for one reason or another.

Movies and Video Games Are Too Long

As one decade ends and another stretches out before us, it's time to put old debates behind us and start anew. Today, we settle the debate on how long content should be.

The two-thousand teens were all about technology growing up and starting to show us what it can do rather than simply what it has the potential to do. That's meant that each iteration of a smartphone has been duller than the last and content has been king. Now that damn fine internet speeds are widely-available and a connected device is in most pockets, we need all kinds of content to fill the glowing rectangle and performance is an afterthought.

Valiant Entertainment Teams Up With Blowfish Studios To Develop Video Games | LRMonline

With Valiant Entertainment always looking for ways to expand their characters reach in media, they announced late last week that they are going to be teaming up with Blowfish Studios to develop a slate of all-new action-packed video games that feature their popular line of characters from the Valiant Superhero Universe. This is the first multi-platform video games from Valiant since Acclaim’s acquisition of the company in the 90’s.

“We’re thrilled to bring Valiant’s characters back into the video game industry and give fans the opportunity to play as their favorite superheroes,” said Dan Mintz, Founder and CEO of DMG Entertainment. “ Translating these characters and stories to video games could not come at a more exciting time as we introduce the world to the Valiant Universe on the big screen with the Bloodshot release.

The fact that next gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles were announced this year did not come as a surprise to anyone.
